MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Middletown native Kayla Harrison was welcomed home for a celebration in her honor Tuesday.

The 22-year-old became the first American to win a gold medal in the sport of Judo in the London Olympics.

Harrison spent the day speaking to students at several of the schools she attended growing up.

"Everyone has been so excited it makes me excited, you know when you feel that energy," said Harrison.

Harrison's welcome home party included a parade and ended with a celebration in the heart of Middletown.

Harrison says she expects to compete in the next summer Olympics in Rio in 2016.
