MASON, Ohio - Mason City Schools announced the district will not seek a levy this May, but will instead make $6 million in budget cuts over the next two years, according to the district's Board of Education.
The district's superintendent said the decision is partly because of financial uncertainty on the part of many votes and also because the amount of state funding the district will receive is still unclear.
As part of the cost reduction plan a wage freeze will be put in place for all administrators, staff and classified staff for the 2012-13 and 2013-2014 school years. The district says the money saved will help stretch the current operating levy that was passed in 2005.
