MASON, Ohio - The Mason School Board in Warren County is going to hear from some residents who don't like how money is being raised for the school levy campaign.
A letter, signed by the pro-levy group, went to every Mason staff member. It requested that employees make payroll deductions to the campaign for the levy.
Other districts have done it too.
Those against the form of collecting the funds said they are contacting an attorney. They are confronting board members at Monday night's meeting about their concern.
Resident Sharon Poe said she doesn't like that her tax money is going to something she doesn't support. She also said the school resources shouldn't be used. "It's against the law in Ohio to use school resources to advance or oppose a school levy," said Poe.
A campaign finance administrator at the Ohio Secretary of State's office told 9 News his initial impression is that the district did nothing wrong.
However, he said if the district will take deductions for the pro-levy group, it must also accept them for an anti-levy campaign.
