MASON, Ohio - A fire at a Mason residence forced a woman and her young son out of their home early Wednesday morning.
The fire started at a house in the 1300 block of Firethorne Drive at about 12:40 a.m. A woman and her child escaped the blaze uninjured, but it was a close call, said officials.
The woman in the residence woke up to the smoke alarms, but she thought they were her alarm clock, according to officials. She finally got up and went down the hall and saw the smoke and grabbed the boy and got out of the house, officials added.
The house suffered heavy smoke damage in the kitchen and outside porch. The woman and her son are staying with nearby family members.
Officials have not released any additional details about the fire at this time, including what caused the fire or the estimated cause of damage.
