LEBANON, Ohio - A southwest Ohio YMCA has collaborated with a church congregation to establish a YMCA center in Salem, India.
The backers are Countryside YMCA in Lebanon north of Cincinnati and Antioch Church, which holds Sunday services at the YMCA.

Pastor David Newman says it's a rarity for a local YMCA and a church to build a YMCA facility in a third-world country.

The center will offer many of the same functions as a YMCA and also will serve as a church, community center and health clinic.

The partners contributed a combined total of $8,000 to build the structure.

The center is meant to be self-sustaining so it won't need additional funds from the YMCA or church to continue.
