LEBANON, Ohio - A former Mason high school teacher accused of having sex with several male students will be tried by a judge instead of a jury.
Stacy Schuler waived her right to a jury trial on Wednesday. Her trial on 16 counts of sexual battery and three counts of providing alcohol to minors is set to begin Monday in Lebanon. The 33-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Schuler resigned as health and gym teacher at Mason High School in February after her arrest.
She is accused of having sexual relations with students on five separate occasions at her house. Prosecutors have said that the alleged offenses occurred last year.
The investigation started in January when Mason school officials say they got a tip about a teacher allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with students. That school investigation then triggered a police criminal investigation of the allegations.
The judge on Wednesday agreed to Schuler's request to have an electronic monitoring device removed.
