$1M bond for man charged in crash that killed Warren County Sheriff's deputy Brian Dulle

LEBANON, Ohio - Marcus Anthony Isreal, the Middletown man accused of fleeing police and killing Warren County Sheriff's deputy Brian Dulle had bond set at $1 million Thursday afternoon in Lebanon Municipal Court.

Judge Mark Bogen set a preliminary hearing for next week, but indicated that might not be needed because the case is expected to go to a Warren County grand jury on Friday.

Following his arraignment, Isreal issued an apology to Dulle's family, said he wanted to know a little more about the Sgt. and that he was sorry for their loss. Click on the video tab to watch Isreal's comments.

Isreal is currently charged with with involuntary manslaughter and failure to comply with a police officer. Both charges combined carry a maximum prison sentence of 15 years. It's not known at this time if the charges will be upgraded.

The incident began when Franklin police officers attempted to pull Isreal over early Tuesday morning for no taillights. Police said Isreal refused, took off and got onto U.S. 42 and raced down into Warren County.

Sgt. Brian Dulle, 36, was ahead of the chase and was attempting to deploy stop sticks near the intersection of U.S. 42 and Utica Road in Turtlecreek Township. Police say Isreal swerved and struck Sgt. Dulle, who was to the side of the road near his cruiser. Investigators said Isreal was driving at 100 mph when he struck Sgt. Dulle, killing him instantly.

Warren County Sheriff Larry Sims said Isreal ran one sheriff's cruiser off the road during the chase and almost struck a second cruiser head-on. Police said he was driving down the wrong side of the roadway when he struck and killed Dulle.

Police said Isreal ran from the scene and was arrested without incdient several hours later over a mile away from the crash scene.

Cruiser cam video (which can also be viewed by clicking on the video tab) following the crash was released Thursday. The sheriff's office would like to speak with the drivers shown in the video. The Sgt. leaves behind a wife and three young children, ages 10, 7 and 4. Dulle had been with the Warren County Sheriff's Department since 1999, is a graduate of Edgewood High School and Miami University and was a member of the U.S. Army.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell plans to present his case to a grand jury on Friday in seeking an indictment on the charges. Isreal is no stranger to police and the courts. He was arrested on May 11, 2008 on a charge of aggravated robbery. Butler County court records show he was convicted on that charge and also convicted on a weapons charge and drug possession.

Funeral plans for Sgt. Dulle have been finalized. Visitation is Friday evening at Christ's Church in Mason on Western Row Road. The service is from 5-9 p.m. Police expect a huge turnout of people from not only the local community, but also police from departments across the state and country.

The family also has an organization called Maddie's Hope that was started to benefit Cincinnati Children's Hospital for cancer patients and their families.
