HAMILTON, Ohio - A highly-visible official with Miami University has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation.

Archie Nelson -- the man whose face has been used for the "Ask Archie" advertising campaigns for their admissions departments at their branch campuses located in Hamilton and Middletown -- has been on paid leave since Feb. 6.

Miami University is not directly commenting on what type of allegations have been made against Nelson.

9 News has learned the investigation is being handled by the university's Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity , OEEO.  That office deals with harassment or discrimination-related concerns.

Nelson is still listed on Miami University Regional 's website.  He is listed there as the Regional Director of Admission and Financial Aid, serving both branch campuses.

University spokesperson Claire Wagner says the allegation deals with an alleged violation of university policy, but declined to comment more.

"The university has procedures in place to follow when a complaint has been filed and we are following those procedures," Wagner said.

Wagner says Nelson could remain on leave for a few more weeks until the OEEO has finished their investigation.
