FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Audrey, a 2-year-old Pit Bull, was within an hour of death when she was found at Joyce Park in Hamilton .

She was taken to Animal Care Center in Fairfield where she has started to recover.

Audrey weighed just 27 pounds when she was found and had a temperature so low it did not register on a thermometer.

Her biggest problem now is her infected feet. Doctors say her feet are infected because she was forced to stand in her own feces.

"She's been on antibiotics for about two weeks, and they actually look much better than they did before," said Dr. Amber Blackburn, who is treating Audrey.

Audrey started to eat on her own after a few days and has gained 15 pounds since she was brought in.

"All she needed was to be fed, and a little love," Dr. Blackburn said.

Audrey will be ready for adoption when she gains enough weight and her feet heal.

Dr. Blackburn says that could take weeks and possibly months to happen.

"She's just coming into her own, she has her own personality, it's been great to see it develop," Dr. Blackburn said.

Audrey's owner, Edwin Saunders of Lockland, has been charged with animal cruelty, abandonment and failure to confine.
