Dinosaur at new Kings Island exhibit catches fire

MASON, Ohio - Kings Island officials continue to investiate a fire that damaged the new dinosaur exhibit "Dinosaurs Alive" at the Mason amusement park Tuesday night.
Kings Island public relations manager Don Helbig said the fire occurred around 8:40 p.m. during construction of the largest animatronic dinosaur in the exhibit, the Ruyang Yellow River dinosaur, which measures 72 feet long, 12 feet wide and 38 feet high.
The Kings Island Fire Department was the first on the scene and the fire was quickly contained. No injuries were reported.
Damages are in the thousands, according to Helbig.
Investigators are not sure how the fire started at this time, but an investigation is ongoing. No other information has been released.
Helbig said the new exhibit is still scheduled to open Thursday, May 26 and that they will replace the dinosaur.
