CONNERSVILLE, Ind. - The pilot of a small aircraft is dead after a plane crash in Connersville, Ind. Wednesday night.

The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. in a rural area near the Connersville Municipal Airport, about 25 miles west of Oxford.

Several people in the area reported what sounded like a low-flying plane that was followed by an explosion.

Indiana State Police say they found wreckage from a single-engine plane, but due to the severity of the crash were unable to determine if there were any other passengers on board other than the pilot.

Officials have not released what may have caused the crash and do not expect to release any other information for several days while The FAA and NTSB investigate the incident.
