Passenger dies, driver hurt in Aurora crash

AURORA, Ind. - A man is dead and another man is injured after they were involved in a crash in Aurora, Ind., early Monday morning.

Aric Shinkle, the driver, and his passenger, Robert Martin — both 25 years old — were involved in the crash in the 100 block of Billingsley Drive at about 12:30 a.m.

Shinkle was driving westbound on Billingsley Drive when he drove off the roadway and crashed into several trees before coming to a stop in the front lawn of a house.

The Aurora Fire Department had to remove Martin from the vehicle.

Emergency crews transported the victims to Dearborn County Hospital, where Martin was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released details about the injuries that led to Martin’s death. Officials have not released information about Shinkle’s injuries at this time.

Aurora police have not yet said what caused the crash or said if the victims were wearing their seatbelts.

Aurora Police Department is continuing the investigation.
