Fire damages Lawrenceburg thrift store

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. - A fire damaged a thrift store in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Thursday morning.

Fire crews ran hoses across US 50 to fight a blaze at The Hope's Light Thrift Store located at 1099 West Eads Parkway, causing US 50 to be shut down for a time, beginning at about 8 a.m.

At about 2 p.m., crews re-opened up all lanes of the roadway.

Crews fought the flames defensively because of large heaters and air conditioning units on top of the thrift store and surrounding units in its shopping center. Authorities say there was a threat of the roof collapsing because of the weight.

The fire caused extensive damage to the thrift store as well as neighboring stores. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined. Workers at other establishments in the DTS Plaza strip mall said the thrift store's manager told them an industrial space heater may have ignited clothing and other materials inside the store.

One person was in the store at the time of the fire and escaped without any injuries. Officials have not reported any other injuries at this time.

Officials have not released any additional information about the fire at this time including the estimated cost of damages.
