LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. - A man is in police custody Friday morning after he prompted a police standoff outside a Lawrenceburg, Ind., home Thursday night.
Indiana State Police arrested 31-year-old William C. Hoffman, Jr. early Friday morning after he exchanged gunfire with police during a two-hour standoff at 319 East Williams Street around 9 p.m. Thursday.
Police were called to the Lawrenceburg home for a report of a domestic disturbance. When officials responded, they found Hoffman on the front porch with a gun. Hoffman then retreated into the home, which prompted the two hour standoff.
Officers say they attempted to negotiate with Hoffman, however, around 11 p.m. he began shooting at officials at the scene who returned fire.
Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team responded and at around 3 a.m., members of the team entered the house and took Hoffman into custody.
During the exchange of gunfire, Hoffman sustained a gunshot wound to the back of one of his shoulders. Emergency crews transported him to Dearborn County Hospital and transferred him to University Hospital. His injuries are not serious, according to police. As of 11 a.m. Friday Hoffman had been treated and released from the hospital. He is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
No one else was injured during the standoff. Authorities have not said if anyone else was in the house at the time of the standoff.
Hoffman is facing a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness. Other charges are expected to be filed later.
Officials have not released any additional details about the incident at this time.
