MARIEMONT, Ohio - The Kellogg plant in Mariemont is shut down after a chemical leak sent two employees to the hospital early Monday morning.

There was an ammonia leak at Kellogg’s snack plant located at 1 Trade Street at about 1 a.m., according to officials. Officials evacuated the plant and emergency crews transported two employees to local hospitals as a precaution. One employee is at Bethesda North Hospital and the other is at the Jewish Hospital, according to officials.

Exposure to ammonia can cause eyes to burn and can be deadly if too much is inhaled.

Officials have not yet said what caused the leak. The gas has been removed from the lines as a precaution, according to officials.

Authorities have not released any additional details at this time including how long the plant will be closed Monday.
