LOVELAND, Ohio - When Drew Reaves heard gunshots behind his Loveland home Sunday night, he never expected the night to end the way it did.
"Just as I was about to open the curtains, I heard a third bang, ripped the curtains open, saw some muzzle flash and saw people running across the parking lot behind my property," Reaves said.
The shooting took place in the 300 block of Broadway Street at about 11:35 p.m. Reaves said he saw two men and a woman run by and immediately called 911.
"I figured I better go back there and see if anyone was OK. Peeked over the fence and the victim was lying on the sidewalk," Reaves said.
Reaves said it looked liked the victim, who police identified as a 23-year-old male, was shot in the leg.
"I heard the commotion coming from over there, so you can see that tree stump over there, I kind of stood up and looked down at him so he points at me and starts yelling at me saying why'd you shoot me," said Reaves.
Right as the victim said that, police showed up and ordered Reaves to jump over the fence, according to Reaves.
"I immediately jumped over the fence, which I don't know if I could do that again, but when I have a shotgun and a 9 mil pointed at me, I was motivated and I got over it," he said.
Reaves said he was then handcuffed by police.
"I certainly didn't walk out there expecting to be a suspect, that's for sure," he said.
After some questioning, police realized Reaves wasn't the suspect. The ordeal was something the father of two never imagined happening the in six years he's lived in Loveland.
"We'll certainly do a better job locking our doors and keep on the lookout so to speak," he said.
Loveland police say they are still searching for four suspects believed to be involved with the shooting in some way.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040 or the Loveland Police Department at (513) 677-7000.
