EASTGATE, Ohio - Next Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the deadly tornadoes that ripped through parts of the Tri-State.
One of the hardest hit areas during the storm was the tiny village of Moscow, Ohio. Over the past 12 months major efforts have been made by the village and charitable organizations to help get the community back on its feet.
While great strides have been made, people in Moscow are still in need. That’s why with the help of the Meijer in Eastgate, around 10,000 pounds of food was purchased and delivered to the people in that town Saturday.
“They're hurting. They have great needs,” said Clermont County Safety Net Alliance representative Brandon Little.
The charitable organization traveled to Moscow early Saturday morning to deliver the food.
A total of $7,000 in donations from Meijer and elsewhere was used to purchase the food.
The Vineyard Church of Eastgate has a longstanding partnership with Meijer and was able to work with the store to get donations. The Landmark Baptist Church was also involved in the effort.
Little says it can take several years for a community to completely recover from a disaster like the tornado that ripped apart Moscow on March 2, 2012.
The group is trying to let people know that the community is still in great need for things like pet food, washers and dryers, and even beds.
“There's families that lost everything and they're trying to rebuild. What happens is people forget so we're hoping to get people to remember."
Little said the group is trying to “work with their situations and address real needs.”
The group is still accepting donations. If you’d like to help, visit the Clermont County Safety Net Alliance website .
