BLUE ASH, Ohio - Several hundred people gathered Sunday for a ceremony to honor veterans and express appreciation to those who have served our country past and present.
The Cincinnati Warbirds did a fly over of the Blue Ash Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park .
World War II veteran Dean Giacometti recalled the day he lost his college friend from the University of Cincinnati in battle. It was more than 70 years ago but the memory is still clear.
"When Ray Virgin got his degree in 1942, he immediately joined the Marine Corps and became a fighter pilot. While in the Pacific, he was sent on a search and destroy mission. Neither his body, nor plane has ever been found," said Giacometti.
Students from the Edwin H. Greene Intermediate School also created wreaths for the war memorial and read poems in honor of Veterans Day.
