ANDERSON TWP., Ohio - There is new hope for those who oppose the Martin Marietta mining project in Anderson Township.
Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper says he will ask commissioners not to approve the mining company's request to tunnel under a county owned road.
Martin Marietta's plans would require a tunnel be built underneath Broadwell Road near Round Bottom Road.
Commissioner Pepper, who opposes the underground limestone mining project that was approved by a slim margin of a 3 to 2 vote by Anderson Township Zoning Board, says he will introduce a resolution at Wednesday's July 13 commissioners meeting opposing a request to tunnel under Broadwell Road.
Pepper says he believes he has the support of his fellow commissioners.
Members of CABOOM, Citizens Against Blasting On Our Miami, gathered at Newtown Farm Market Tuesday morning to hear Pepper's proposal.
Anderson Township officials say they do not have a comment on Pepper's proposal at this time since they have not had a chance to review it.
