CINCINNATI - Crews worked through Wednesday morning to reopen the southbound lanes of I-75 in Cincinnati's West End after a tractor trailer crash shut down the expressway for hours.
Highway and emergency workers have reopened all lanes of I-75 after clearing the wreckage of a jackknifed tractor trailer and the fuel that spilled from that semi.
Police say Kulbir Sing Bajwa of Brampton, Ontario was driving a Rush Trucking Company semi out of Michigan and reportedly lost control of his rig, which slammed into the center median of I-75 just north of the Ezzard Charles Drive overpass around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
That caused the truck to jackknife, sending debris and fuel all over the expressway. Bajwa was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
Police shut down the entire expressway to give them better access to the crash scene for several hours early Wednesday morning.
Most of the trouble came in the southbound lanes. The slope of the highway there had fuel flowing down the roadway for several hundred yards.
Workers put down sand and other chemicals to soak up that fuel during the cleanup effort. When highway crews reopened the closed southbound lanes around 5:45 a.m, it kicked up several heavy clouds of dust and sand that drifted over the highway and into the West End.
Much of the dust clouds had dissapated within a half hour.
Bajwa is charged in the crash with failure to control.
