CINCINNATI - A homeless man assaulted a Cincinnati police officer early Tuesday morning in Over-the-Rhine.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., while the Hamilton County sheriff's Over-the-Rhine cleanup detail was working, Dennis McElroy, 45, assaulted the deputy in charge of the cleanup crew.

Officer assistance arrived at the scene and McElroy was placed under arrest without further incident.

The deputy and McElroy were transported to University Hospital for treatment and subsequently released.

McElroy is charged with obstructing official business and assault on a police officer.

He was transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center to await arraignment.
