CINCINNATI - The all new Washington Park opened Friday morning and the new design was crafted with the community and your family in mind, and is just another part of downtown Cincinnati's rise back to fun and popularity.
One of the first events in the park -- which is located at 1230 Elm Street in Over-the-Rhine -- is a free World Choir Games concert at 5:30 p.m. Friday on what is called Civic Lawn. Organizers with 3CDC say the space is the size of a football field and will feature weekly music events and movie nights on a large screen.
The park will host bluegrass music on Wednesdays, jazz in the park on Thursdays, R&B and soul on Fridays, movies on Saturdays and a variety of other kids and dog programs throughout the week. The Cincinnati Sports League has also kick-started a kickball league, to take place every Wednesday at the park as.
At the other end of the park you'll find benches to enjoy the shade, a kid's section and a dog park along with a large fountain display with water shooting out of jets in the ground.
3CDC officials tell 9 News they hope the community embraces the new space and that it plays a role in the revitalization efforts for the rest of Over-the-Rhine.
Part of the renovation includes a new underground parking garage which opened in April.
