NORWOOD, Ohio - A Norwood man is in custody after police say he admitted to killing his girlfriend Monday night.

Norwood police charged Jose Garcia Martinez, 31, of Norwood, with murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Gladis Son, 31, also of Norwood, who was found dead Monday night in an apartment at 4539 Montgomery Road.

Martinez went to the Norwood Police Department Tuesday morning and officers say he gave a complete admission to killing Son. The two were engaged in an argument prior to the altercation, according to police.

Police were on their way to check on the victim when concerned neighbors called 911 after finding Son in her apartment.

Authorities investigating the incident say the victim was struck in the head with a statue and investigators are looking into the possibility she was strangled to death.

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office will determine the final cause of death.

The victim and suspect have a child together. The child is currently with family.

Martinez will be processed at the Norwood Police Department and then transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Martinez is set to appear in court Wednesday morning.

The incident remains under investigation.
