CINCINNATI - Despite the chilly weather Sunday morning, more than a 100 swimmers dived into the Ohio River to take part in the 5th Annual Great Ohio River Swim

Once a year the Coast Guard shuts down river traffic for a brief period of time so participants can swim from the Ohio side to the Kentucky side and back.

The event was supposed to be held back in July but was canceled due to the river conditions.

While the air temperature was in the 40's, swimmers tell us the water was in the 70's.

"The attraction is that not many people do this," said Karen Rokich, of Delhi. "It's out of the ordinary."

Proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit group Ohio River Way which works to protect the river.
