Crowds came out to watch Riverfest's fireworks despite the pouring rain

CINCINNATI - The rain didn't stop people from attending another year of Riverfest downtown.

Sunday afternoon, Michaelle Jones and her family set up shop under a bridge before the heavy rains came.

"It rained earlier and we were on the other side of the bridge," she said.  "We wanted to stay dry so we moved over and decided to stay here."

Rachel Croy and her friends came from Indianapolis to watch the fireworks.  They also sat under the same bridge to stay dry.

"I like the fireworks," Croy said.  "We thought we'd give it a try and see if maybe the rain won't come."

However, the rain came down hard and the winds picked up.

"Once you get speeds over 21 miles an hour or really blowing wind like we have now, you have to be careful because it could be really difficult to shoot in," Rozzi Fireworks Director of Safety Matt Cheeley said.  "Not only do you have to be careful, but it could endanger the crowd."

Cheeley said each situation is handled differently.

"I'm sure if there's any way possible, we'll shoot them," he said.  "We're here to shoot fireworks and everyone have a good time."
