CINCINNATI - A Cincinnati police motorcycle officer went to the hospital after a vehicle struck him downtown Friday morning.
A blue SUV hit the on-duty officer at the intersection of West 5th Street and Central Avenue just before 11 a.m. The crash knocked the officer off the motorcycle and he told first responders he was hurt.
"His injuries are not life threatening," said Lt. Bruce Hoffbauer of the Cincinnati Police.
Emergency crews transported the officer, whose name has not yet been released, to University Hospital for treatment.
The officer was traveling northbound on Central Avenue in the process of turning right and east on West 5th Street when the SUV in the left lane also attempted to turn right on West 5th Street. The SUV collided into the motorcycle, causing it to topple, according to police.
The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene of the accident. Charges have not yet been filed.
5th and Plum streets are closed to traffic while police investigate the crash and work to clear the scene.
