CINCINNATI - Cincinnati police have confirmed the body found early Saturday to be that of 1-year-old William Cunningham who was reported as missing on Friday.
William was reported missing by Marquita Burch in the City Heights Public Housing Complex in Covington, Ky.
Covington detectives interviewed Burch regarding discrepancies in her story.
On Saturday, Burch recanted her story and informed the detectives that William died in Cincinnati on Sheehan Avenue.
Burch directed Covington detectives to an apartment on Winton Road in Cincinnati where she had moved the body.
Officers entered the apartment and discovered the body of William in a hall closet.
Family members were told the boy had been dead for 48 hours when his body was found.
"He made everybody smile, why would she do this to this baby right here, this my baby, my baby," said Kiara Carter, William's mother.
Family members spent Saturday night looking for answers.
"Why she want to kill an innocent baby, that's one of God's angels," said Easter, William's grandmother.
Burch has been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
The Homicide Unit investigation is ongoing.
Officials have not released any additional information about the incident.
