CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Reds are calling it, "11 Day of Larkin." The week and a half celebration leads up to the moment on Aug. 26 when the team will retire the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, Barry Larkin's jersey. Make sure you take our Reds photo gallery quiz , to see if you can figure out who the player is.
Two fans from the Dayton, Ohio area, Mark Ferrell and Charles Savage, weighed in on the gesture by the Reds organization.
"He was one of the best at his spot," said Ferrell. "[Larkin] just didn't get that chance because of Ozzie Newsome."
"If you went to a game [Larkin] gave a hundred percent," said Savage. "That's why he is important to me. He started his career in Cincinnati and ended it in Cincinnati."
Larkin began his career wearing the number 15 jersey, but later changed to number 11. Now, it could be said, that Larkin is a perfect 10, because he will be the tenth player that the Reds have retired a jersey.
"I'm very proud to wear his jersey," said Savage. "I don't do that often, with someone else's name on the back, but I will with Barry Larkin."
