CINCINNATI - More than 17,000 runners registered for the oldest Thanksgiving foot race in the country Thursday.

The participants began arriving before sun-up to check in with officials, socialize and warm-up. At race time the temperature hovered in the mid 40s.

Many of the people at the event were either racing for a cause or simply wanted to be spend time with those closest to them. It's the family- and friend-centric nature of the event that has brought Bill Keating and his family downtown for the race for the past few years.

"We're carrying on the family tradition of running in the Turkey Day Race," Keating said. "Over the years, we've had 44 members of our family run. Today I got my two daughters, Liz and Caroline ."

The winners of the race were Joe Moore from Minneapolis, Minn., and Katie Breathitt from Lexington, Ky.
