CINCINNATI - Detectives were at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center searching for clues in a homicide investigation Wednesday night after a man was taken by acquaintances to the hospital after being shot.

Cincinnati police were called to the hospital at 6:28 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call from the hospital that indicated someone had been shot. When police arrived to the scene, the victim had already succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Dashwan Wheeler, 19.

Police say Wheeler was shot somewhere in the 900 block of Burton Avenue in Avondale and driven to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Additional details regarding the victim have not been released.

9 On Your Side reporter Amy Wadas was first on the scene at the hospital. She reported that District 4 police officers were on the hospital's campus conducting an investigation. Wadas also reported that investigators were simultaneously conducting a search of the Burton Avenue scene.

The case remains under investigation.
