FLORENCE, Ky. - Republican congressional candidate Thomas Massie hopes to win Kentucky's 4th district congressional seat on Election Day.

Massie, 41, looks forward to addressing the country’s budget problems “in a common sense way.”

“I look forward to addressing the nation’s budget problems in a common sense way without burdening the 4th District’s hardworking families,” Massie said.

Massie earned the GOP nomination after Republican Geoff Davis resigned from the post in July because of a family health issue.

Despite being a relative newcomer of politics, Massie defeated two well-established Republicans, state Rep. Alecia Webb-Edgington and Boone County Judge-Executive Gary Moore, in the Republican primary.

The primary race showed that the tea party movement remains strong in Kentucky

Massie is a protégé of U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and has received support from his political mentor. Paul endorsed Massie and was actively involved in the race, even appearing in one of Massie’s TV ads.

The Vanceburg, Ky. native has also received considerable support from tea party groups across the country. A Texas-based tea party group has put more than $500,000 into the race.

Massie takes on Democrat Bill Adkins in Tuesday’s election. To read about Adkins, go to www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/political/elections_local/bill-adkins-ky-4th-congressional-district-candidate .
