INDIANAPOLIS - State excise police arrested 218 people in Indianapolis during Super Bowl week, about half for underage drinking.
Plainclothes officers made the arrests in downtown areas such as the Super Bowl Village, the Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium from Jan. 29 through Feb. 5.
Underage drinkers accounted for 120 of those arrested. The rest were for charges including public intoxication, fake IDs and marijuana possession.
The Department of Public Safety reported 12 arrests on game night. Deputy Police Chief Michael Bates said most were for public intoxication and fighting.
Vice officers made dozens of arrests during Super Bowl week, including 37 for prostitution, 27 for patronizing a prostitute and three for promoting prostitution.
Police said they observed a relatively calm crowd throughout the game week. Organizers say more than 1 million people visited the Super Bowl Village over 10 days.
The Department of Code Enforcement issued 118 citations over the course of the week for offenses, including unlicensed parking lots, advertising, ticket scalping and merchandise sales.
