Police: Shooting suspect's apartment was booby trapped

AURORA, Colo. - Multiple police agencies, including a SWAT team and bomb squad, searched the apartment of the suspected gunman who opened fire at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater causing the death of 12 people early Friday morning only to find it was booby trapped, according to Associate Press reports.

The apartment is believed to be the home of 24-year-old James Holmes. Holmes was arrested after the deadly shooting at a theater in Aurora. When officials searched it, they say it was booby trapped in some way and evacuated the area.

Officials have not yet said how it was booby trapped.

Early Friday morning, FBI agents removed the glass from the window of Holmes’ apartment, which is located on Paris Street between 16th and 17th avenues in Aurora.

Twelve people died after Holmes allegedly opened fire in a theater showing "The Dark Knight Rises" early Friday morning.

Holmes was arrested in the parking lot of the theater, police said. He was found at his car, behind the theaters with a rifle and a handgun in his possession, according to Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates.

Investigators said they recovered a third weapon, but they did not say where that weapon was found or what it was.

Holmes alluded to bombs at his house, which led to the search of his apartment in North Aurora.

Neighbors around the apartment have been evacuated.

Oates said there is no evidence of additional shooters and national officials are saying Holmes allegedly acted alone and that it is not a terrorist threat.
