NEW YORK -  The wife of a police officer accused of plotting to kidnap and eat women will be called to testify against him at a New York City trial.

A judge ruled Monday that Kathleen Mangan can tell a jury about how she discovered that her husband was talking about cannibalism on the Internet.

But the judge is barring her from testifying about the couple's confidential communications or about his mental condition.

Gilberto Valle is charged with scheming to abduct, kill and eat dozens of women. His lawyers say he was only indulging in fetish fantasies.

Opening statements at his federal trial are set for Monday afternoon.
