DENVER - A man named James Holmes who lives in Littleton, Colo. posted on Facebook Friday to tell people he is not the suspect in the deadly mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora.

Holmes posted a note that said, "I am not the man who did it."

The Littleton Holmes calls himself a 22-year-old book-slinging mass eater from Littleton.

He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado where he studied history.

Holmes questioned why people would want to be friends with a suspected killer.

"I would appreciate if you would read this particular post and not assume that it would be interesting to be friends with someone on Facebook who is very probably going to be in jail and not be able to confirm your friend requests anyway," Holmes wrote.

Holmes said his girlfriend was even questioned at a job interview about her relationship with "James Holmes."

"[She] had the rather interesting experience of having to tell someone she had a job interview with that she is not, in fact dating a serial killer," said Holmes.

"James Holmes happens to be a pretty common name, surprisingly, so try not to jump the gun." Holmes said.

Holmes' friends have told him to hang in there on Facebook.

"You are one of the kindest souls I have known, and are the antithesis of violence, at this level or any other," said Tracy Theobald Briggs.

"James: All of us who know you know it wasn't you. You are one of the kindest sweetest young men I know. Love you," wrote Joanna Manning Braun.

The Facebook post was shared more than 400 times in four hours.
