There was no indication that Rudy Eugene, the man who chewed off the face of a homeless man in Miami, had a history of mental illness or was using drugs other than marijuana, the attacker's girlfriend said.

Rudy Eugene is accused of chewing off a homeless man's face. But an autopsy determined there was no human flesh in his stomach, the Miami Herald reports.

Miamiherald.com said there were pills in his stomach, but they haven't yet been identified.

Earlier this week Eugene's girlfriend, Yovonka Bryant, said her boyfriend was not a crazed cannibal but a loving person.

Eugene was shot and killed last month by a Miami police officer who said he found Eugene eating another man's face.

"Rudy never drank alcohol or used drugs around me. I only ever saw him smoke a marijuana cigarette once. One thing that I loved about Rudy is how he talked about his family. He loved his mother and his grandmother very dearly. The care that he expressed to my son, the friend he became to my brother and cousins, and the man he was to me will never be forgotten. I felt safe with Rudy," Bryant said earlier this week.

She says Eugene was a Christian who wanted to learn more about the Muslim faith and often read the Bible and the Koran.

Victim Ronald Poppo, a homeless man, remains in the hospital.

The Herald says Eugene’s autopsy records have not yet been released to the public.
