CINCINNATI - Competitors in the World Choir Games expect to feel the heat on stage, but it was spectators at Wednesday night's opening ceremony who say the temperatures inside U.S. Bank Arena were simply unbearable.

More than 11,500 people were inside for the festivities as the official opening ceremony kicked off the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati.

Many complained about the heat and wanted to know, 'What happened?'

9 News now has an answer.

Ian Bolender, a spokesman for U.S. Bank Arena tells us the air conditioner was on and in working condition but two and a half hours prior to the ceremony organizers propped open the door for the thousands of spectators to come inside.

Bolender explains the heat from outside simply made its way into the venue.
