With the new James Bond movie “Skyfall” set to be released to theaters Nov. 9, the people at TripAdvisor have put together a list of the top 9 (plus one) hotels that have appeared in 007 film.
1. Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico , Mexico City, Mexico – “License to Kill”
Located in the center of Mexico City, Mexico, the interior of this historic hotel was featured in “License to Kill,” in which Timothy Dalton played Bond. In addition to its Art Nouveau, Louis XV style, the hotel boasts a Tiffany stained-glass ceiling designed by French artisan Jacques Gruber. One TripAdvisor traveler said, “Probably one of the most architecturally stunning historical deco buildings I have ever seen!”
2. Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg , Hamburg, Germany – “Tomorrow Never Dies”
Along the shores of Lake Alster in Hamburg, Germany is Hotel Atlantic Kempinski, which played host to Pierce Brosnan’s hair-raising climb from his suite to the globe on the hotel’s roof in “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The recently renovated hotel offers a private cinema for its guests, along with other posh amenities. A TripAdvisor traveler commented, “The Kempinski did not let me down. The rooms, service and food were to-die-for.”
3. LVH - Las Vegas Hotel & Casino , Las Vegas, Nevada – “Diamonds Are Forever”
Formerly the Las Vegas Hilton, this iconic Sin City hotel served as the “Whyte House” casino in the 1971 film, “Diamonds Are Forever.” In the middle of the desert, travelers can cool off by the hotel’s pool, which offers 18 cabanas and a relaxing 25-seat Jacuzzi. A TripAdvisor traveler said, “Great stay at a great price.”
4. Hotel Cala di Volpe , Sardinia, Italy – “The Spy Who Loved Me”
Seated on one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean, this luxury hotel acted as the backdrop in the 1977 Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me.” With its design inspired by old fishing villages, Hotel Cala di Volpe features 97 rooms with dazzling ocean views in addition to 17 opulent suites. One TripAdvisor traveler said, “The hotel, service and food were wonderful. The staff was very accommodating.”
5. Stoke Park Country Club, Spa and Hotel , Stoke Poges, England – “Goldfinger” and “Tomorrow Never Dies”
A beautiful stately mansion set in the Buckinghamshire countryside, this hotel located 35 minutes from London was featured in two films with two different Bond actors – “Goldfinger” and “Tomorrow Never Dies.” The plush property includes a 27-hole golf course designed by Harry Colt and an award-winning spa. A TripAdvisor traveler said, “Very impressive hotel enhanced by excellent food and service.”
6. Taj Lake Palace Udaipur , Udaipur, India– “Octopussy”
With the Aravalli Mountains and city palaces in the distance, this spectacular hotel was the home of Roger Moore, better known as James Bond, in the 1976 film “Octopussy.” This exquisite escape located along Lake Pichola boasts gilt moldings and sculpted marble columns. One TripAdvisor traveler said, “This is without a doubt one of my very favorite hotels anywhere in the world.”
7. Palacio Estoril Hotel, Golf and Spa , Estoril, Portugal – “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”
Just 25 minutes from Lisbon, this magnificent hotel was a meeting place for British and German spies during the Second World War and appeared in the 1969 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” – the only James Bond movie in which George Lazenby played the iconic role. A TripAdvisor traveler said, “A fantastic historical hotel completely refurbished with an incredible spa.”
8. Hotel Cipriani and Palazzo Vendramin by Orient-Express , Venice, Italy – “Casino Royale”
Built in 1956, this hotel is situated on the edge of Giudecca Island and offers stunning views of Venice’s lagoon and Doge’s Palace. In the 2006 film, “Casino Royale,” the secret service agent moored his yacht at this award-winning property. “The hotel is beautiful, the staff is very welcoming, and room was comfortable,” said a TripAdvisor traveler.
9. British Colonial Hilton Nassau , Nassau, Bahamas – “Thunderball” and “Never Say Never Again”
Located steps from its own pristine beach, this grand boutique hotel appeared in “Thunderball” and “Never Say Never Again.” This property combines colonial and contemporary style and is a short distance from downtown Nassau. A TripAdvisor traveler commented, “This hotel is a fantastic property. It has everything one can hope for – service is great, it has a breathtaking view and a fantastic beach.”
Plus 1 (or 10). Couples Sans Souci , Ocho Rios, Jamaica – “ Dr. No,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Goldfinger”
This impressive hotel which is perched atop the cliffs of Jamaica’s emerald coast appeared in three epic Bond films: “Dr. No,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Goldfinger.” Here, travelers can immerse themselves in natural mineral springs or kick back in a hammock and listen as the waves meet the shore. One TripAdvisor traveler said, “We were treated like royalty the whole time we were there.”
