New research indicates why particular songs boost people’s moods, especially songs with high-pitched voices.

Try listening to Prince, Bob Marley and The Beach Boys as the research conducted by Dr. Jack Lewis for rara.com showed it was essential to get the brain’s “reward pathways” firing.

The (UK) Daily Mail has reported that certain elements that go into making a song a happy one, such as predictable melody and a punchy beat, are best at boosting people’s mood.

Scientists have come up with what they call ‘the Prozac playlist,’ which includes:

  • “Sexy Dancer” by Prince
  • “Let the Good Times Roll” by BB King
  • “Surfing USA” by The Beach Boys
  • “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley
