Chinese hurdler gets creative after rough start

How did a Chinese University Games hurdler manage to knock down every hurdle, face-plant while being tackled by an object that he should have jumped over, and finish in another runner’s lane?

Mostly on purpose, of course.

A Chinese student made a spectacle of himself by obliterating the hurdles in his lane after struggling over the first two. By the time he crossed the finish line, only the final two hurdles in his lane remained unharmed — but that was because he was busy clearing the path for a neighboring hurdler.

Despite toppling every obstacle (himself included), the runner finished in fifth place before penalties were assessed. The last-place finisher also managed to knock down every hurdle, but he attempted to jump over each one.
