Charles Darwin draws write-in votes

Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, received nearly 4,000 write-in votes on Election Day in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District.

The election, however, was easily won by incumbent Republican Rep. Paul Broun, a physician and creationist who in September said evolution was based on “lies straight from the pit of hell,” the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

The newspaper credited the showing by the long-dead Darwin to a Facebook page begun by a University of Georgia biologist in the wake of Broun’s remarks.
