SAN DIEGO, Calif. (AP) -- Times are tough -- even for the animals of the San Diego P-D.
The police department is putting seven horses up for auction.
The mounted unit, which was established in 1983, is disbanding.
The officers have been reassigned.
About a third of the San Diego Police Department's dogs are also being laid off.
The online horse auction will help the SDPD balance its books.
