Ryle High School student dies from injuries suffered in car crash

UNION, Ky. - A 17-year-old died Wednesday from injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle crash in early December.

Police said on Dec. 8 James Hamilton, of Union, Ky., was driving his 2000 Ford Ranger southbound on U.S. 42 when he went left of center and struck a utility pole.

Hamilton was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

Hamilton's father, Tim, told 9 On Your SideĀ  his son was wearing a seatbelt, and was told by doctors that his son suffered injuries as a result of it.

Hamilton was a student at Ryle High School.

The school posted the following statement on its website following the news of Hamilton's death.

Ryle junior James M. Hamilton passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from injuries suffered in a car accident approximately a week and a half ago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to James' family, friends, and classm ates.
