CINCINNATI - St. Xavier High School's principal said on Monday he's leaving next month to become the principal of Mother of Mercy High School in Westwood.

David Mueller was St. Xavier's principal for 19 years after first being an English teacher for the school.

Bill Sandquist, the assistant principal for academic affairs, has been named the interim principal for the 2012-2013 school year.

Sandquist has been with the school for more than 30 years, and will serve as principal until the end of the year, when officials said he plans to retire from education.

The school said a committee will begin the search for a new principal in the fall.
