CHEVIOT, Ohio - A man is in police custody following a pursuit in the westside of Cincinnati where a shot was fired by a sheriff's deputy on Wednesday.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says a deputy attempted to pull Stephen Davenport, 23, over on I-74 near the Rybolt Road exit shortly before noon.
Investigators say the Westwood man threw a bag containing approximately two ounces of heroin from his white Toyota car as he was slowing down. Moments later a deputy fired one shot at Davenport's car.
Davenport then sped off, eventually exiting at North Bend Road. He then went south on North Bend Road, across Westwood Northern Boulevard and into Cheviot. Davenport crashed into a utility pole as he was trying to turn onto Harrison Avenue in the 3300 block. Deputies then stopped him by using a "rolling road stop."
Deputies took Davenport and a female passenger into custody. Davenport was transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center and charged with trafficking in drugs (heroin), possession of drugs (heroin), weapon under disability, fleeing and eluding and tampering with evidence. He was already under investigation for drugs when he was pulled over.
The female passenger was taken to the hospital as a precaution and will not be charged.
Witnesses said two pedestrians who were standing on the sidewalk in front of a business were struck by Davenport's car.
Authorities searched Davenport's home where they found a firearm.
The intersection was shut down for several hours while authorities investigated.
