HAMILTON, Ohio - A reward is being offered in the case of the severely starved Pit Bull found on December 19 in Joyce Park located in Butler county.

An unusual blue and gold blanket with the word Doughboy written on it along with a picture of the Doughboy may lend a clue as well as a collar and lease found on the dog.

“The dog is extremely emaciated and one of the worst cases I have ever seen,” says Deputy Dog Warden/Humane Officer Kurt Merbs.

DNA testing is being conducted by the Fairfield Police Department on the blanket, collar and leash.  Anyone with information is asked to come forward.

The Pit Bull was a little more alert on Tuesday, but is still in a great deal of pain.  She has been put on antibiotics for swollen and infected feet.

“It is heartbreaking when you see one come in that has been so starved and cannot walk and has been ‘dumped’ like a piece of trash.  There are so many other ‘humane’ options available if you do not want your pet. To let it get in this condition is so unnecessary and cruel,” says Chief Dog Warden/Humane Officer, Julie A. Holmes.

The Pit Bull is eating well, but does not know what a water bowl is and had to be given water by hand.

Any donations for her care are welcome and are to be directed to the Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton or the Animal Care Center of Fairfield where she is undergoing extensive treatment.

Animal starvation cases has risen in the last few years in Butler county, but there is help for pet owners.

“Animal Friends Humane Society has a number of resources available to our communities, from low cost spay neuter to animal food pantries,” says Meg Stephenson, Executive Director of AFHS.  “We urge pet owners to contact us for help before it gets to this point.”
