CINCINNATI - With the Reds headed to the playoffs retailers have more products and opportunity to cash in on their success.
"I think the fact that they locked up their key guys like Votto, Chapman, and a lot of the fan favorites for long term deals, so fans know they're going to be here a while, so they're not scared away from buying that Joey Votto jersey or Brandon Phillips T-shirt, you know they can wear it for a while, I think that helps," said Eric Koch, of Koch's Sporting Goods.
Koch says Reds gear has been popular all season. They started selling post season apparel as soon as the Reds clinched a spot in the post season.
It's the second time the Reds are headed to the playoffs in the last three years.
"Last time it was fun just to get there, I think now people are hoping for bigger and better things than just the division title, I think they're thinking World Series and beyond, so it's exciting," said Koch.
Koch's Sporting Goods and other retailers will have to wait until the team clinches the Central Division before they can sell anything with Central Division Champions on it.
