COVINGTON, Ky. -
Mechanical problems kept an AirCare helicopter from returning to University Hospital Saturday night after landing at Pioneer Park in Covington.
According to Covington Police, the medical helicopter responded to transport a man injured in a motorcycle accident on Taylor Mill Road around 8 p.m.
After loading the patient into the helicopter, there was apparently a radio malfunction that kept the helicopter from taking off.
The patient, flight nurse and doctor went to University Hospital by ground.
"This is the first time I've ever experience this," said Covington Fire Captain Bob Rider. "AirCare had a great track record they're always here expeditiously, in and out, and just anything mechanical can break down and that's what happened."
A mechanic responded to the helicopter to try to fix the radio issue.
The name and condition of the man injured has not been released, but he was alert and talking when he left the scene.
