Oxford PD patrol car hits college student

OXFORD, Ohio - A police patrol car struck a local university student in Oxford early Saturday morning.

Oxford police and fire crews responded to the intersection of West Spring Street and South College Avenue after it was reported a young male was struck by an Oxford police patrol car around 12:43 a.m. Saturday morning.

Preliminary reports indicate the patrol car was traveling east on West Spring Street through the intersection when it struck the Miami University student.

The Oxford Life Squad transported the injured man to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital. After being physically evaluated by medical personnel, the man was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital via helicopter.

The intersection where the man was struck is controlled by pedestrian crossing lights. Technical investigators from multiple police agencies are involved in the investigation.

There have been no reports regarding the speed the patrol car was traveling at the time of the accident.

The names of the officer and the pedestrian are being withheld pending completion of the accident investigation by police.
