New Lebanon racino clears another hurdle

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) - A $175 million racino in southwest Ohio has cleared another important hurdle and is on track for construction to begin early next year.
The Dayton Daily News reports that the Ohio Racing Commission voted 5-0 Thursday to approve the horse racing permit for the track in Lebanon, between Dayton and Cincinnati. The project still needs to win other approvals from the state.
The 120-acre site would include a harness racing track with grandstand and an indoor site with 2,500 video lottery terminals. Officials say it will create 700 permanent jobs and pour $24 million a year into the region's economy.
Scioto Downs in Columbus opened a racino in June, and others are in the works in the state, including in Dayton. The racinos combine horse racing with video slots.
